George Eliot: the Bicentenary

She wrote one of the greatest novels of all time, Middlemarch, described by Virginia Woolf as ‘one of the few English novels written for grown-up people’; she threw herself into political, theological and philosophical life; and she scandalised society by living out of wedlock. George Eliot is one of the titans of English literature. Come and celebrate the bicentenary of her birth with devotees Dame Gillian Beer, Alex Clark and Allison Pearson.
