Author Biography
Andrew Marr is a leading political commentator, journalist and broadcaster. Andrew joined the start-up team of The Independent as political correspondent in 1986. He has been political editor of The Economist and Scotsman, and chief commentator of The Independent and editor, 1996-8. He was also a political columnist for The Observer and Express, 1998-2000. He worked as political editor of the BBC 2000-5, has hosted ‘Start the Week’ from 2002-present and ‘The Andrew Marr Show’ (2005-2021). Documentary series include ‘The History of Modern Britain’, ‘The Making of Modern Britain’, ‘Darwin’s Dangerous Idea’, ‘Diamond Queen’ and ‘History of the World’. Andrew is the author of twelve books on subjects including history, biography, political theory, fiction and art. Awards include two RTS and two Baftas, “book of the year” for non-fiction plus six awards for political journalism and two radio awards. His first solo painting show opened in Liverpool in June 2017. He is married to Jackie Ashley, former President of Lucy Cavendish College, Cambridge and has three children.
Rachel Cunliffe is the associate political editor of the New Statesman. She writes on politics and culture, conducts interviews, and is a regular contributor to the New Statesman Podcast.
Hannah Barnes is Associate Editor and Writer at the New Statesman. Prior to that she spent 15 years at the BBC specialising in analytical and investigative journalism on both television and radio. Hannah is also the author of Sunday Times bestseller, Time to Think: The Inside Story of the Collapse of the Tavistock’s Gender Service for Children, which was shortlisted for the Baillie Gifford Prize for Non-Fiction and the Orwell Prize for Political Writing.
Jason Cowley is a journalist, magazine editor and writer. He has been editor of The New Statesman (founded in 1913 as a weekly review of politics and literature) since autumn 2008 and is widely credited with transforming its fortunes as a print and digital publication. He is a former editor of Granta magazine and worked in staff roles at the Times and the Observer. His most recent book, Who Are We Now: Stories of Modern England, was published by Picador in 2022.
