Randa Abdel-Fattah | Discipline
Thu 8 Oct 2026 | 6:00pm - 7:00pm
Randa Abdel-Fattah made headlines in 2026 following her removal from the Adelaide Writers’ Week, sparking a boycott and eventual cancellation of the entire festival. At the heart of this was her characterisation of Israel’s military actions as a ‘genocide’.
Randa joins us to share her novel Discipline, exploring related themes of censorship, complicity, courage and resilience. Set against a backdrop of Israel’s bombardment of Gaza, the book centres around an incident where a student is arrested for protesting a university’s ties to an Israeli arms manufacturer. Sure to be a powerful and unmissable event, Randa reminds us of the power of speaking out, and the courage of listening.
