Whitbread Prize- and Orange Prize-shortlisted author Jill Dawson returns to the Cambridge Literary Festival for a special intimate event. Jill’s sweeping and vivid new novel Pixie will introduce us to her eponymous heroine – the real-life publisher, illustrator and occultist Pamela ‘Pixie’ Colman Smith – and brings us a tale that crosses continents. Join Jill to hear about her new book in the intimate setting of the University Arms hotel Library, where Jill will do some tarot readings.

Author Biography

Jill Dawson is the author of eleven novels, one poetry collection and the editor of six anthologies of poetry and stories. She is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature and has been a Costa Judge, and taught creative writing in many different settings. She lives in Cambridgeshire.

Chair Biography

Kathleen Whyman is the bestselling author of relatable, humorous women’s fiction and has been shortlisted for the Comedy Women in Print prize. She writes for all the multi-tasking, mentally-overloaded women who have put themselves on the subs bench for the sake of their family, and are beginning to realise that they don’t have it all – they do it all. Kathleen also mentors authors and is an events host. She regularly interviews authors, chairs panels and teaches writing with humour workshops. Her fourth book, The Mother of All Problems, is out 12 March 2026.
