Duration: 1 hour
Dr Charlotte Markey
Growing up in a world where airbrushed celebrities are presented as role models, young people are pressured to document their whole lives on social media, and fad diets are abundant, it’s no wonder that young people today struggle to accept their bodies. However, an unhealthy body image can lead to serious problems including anxiety, depression and eating disorders. Join Dr Charlotte Markey, mother to a 12-year-old daughter, and Professor of Psychology at Rutgers University in the USA, as she talks to us about her books, The Body Image Book for Girls, and the upcoming Body Image Book for Boys. Based on years of research Charlotte helps young people aged 9-15 understand, accept, and appreciate their changing bodies, providing all the facts on puberty, mental health, self- care, why diets are bad news, dealing with social media, and everything in-between. She’ll be in conversation with Helena Fox, writer, performer, and drag artist.
